Otolose Fahina Tavake - Secretary

Fahina was born in Tatakamotonga, Tongatapu, in the Island Kingdom of Tonga.  She was raised in San Mateo, California.  She  now resides in Utah.  Her family consists of her husband ‘Ala Pasi, 2 sons, 3 daughters, 2 son-in-laws and three granddaughters. 

Fahina Earned an AS in Aeronautics from the College of San Mateo, California, a BA in Sociology from the University of Utah, and trying to find time to complete a Masters in Public Administration.

Fahina’s passion is working with the community.  She worked 10 years as an Academic Advisor for the University of Utah, and has served for the last 5 years as the Executive Director for the National Tongan American Society, a non-profit CBO servicing Tongan and Pacific Islander communities of Utah. 

She has received the following honors and awards: SLCAP Community Service Award 2002; Governor’s Utah Women’s Achievement Award 2001; NTAS Community Leadership Award 2000; Who’s Who Student Award 2000. She has been actively involved in community service committees for more than a decacde that have focusing on health, immigration, HIV, or multicultural issues.
